The estate and the wine |
|
|
Leading figure in Spanish viticulture, Jorge Monzon has acquired a solid experience through working with some of the world’s greatest stars, such as Romanée Conti and Vega Sicilia. On his Dominio del Aguila estate, which is organically farmed and biodynamically managed, he has excelled for over ten years in the production of wines of great intensity that have caught the attention of wine critics from around the world.
Such a success has led him to a legendary achievement, joining Pingus in the ultra closed circle of estates earning a 100/100 from Parker in Ribera del Duero...
These two wines, born on one of the coolest terroirs of the Ribera del Duero and both crafted from century-old vines, are the perfect example of the resounding success of the estate and the unsinkable vitality of the Spanish vineyard. An unmissable success for all lovers of great wines.
The estate is always in high demand, and to have access to its bottles is not only a great opportunity, it is a rare privilege. An incredible offer reserved for our VIP+ members only! |

Born in an ultra-cool climate at nearly 900 meters above sea level, the 2015 Red Ribera del Duero Peñas Aladas Gran Reserva is an unusual wine. It comes from the estate's oldest vines, well over a hundred years old, located on three small plots perched on a hillside swept by cool air. As a result, the temperature there is always three degrees lower than in the valley. The vines, mostly of the Tempranillo variety, are complemented by other local varieties, on predominantly limestone soils, giving the wine a magical tension. Coupled with the altitude and cool climate, this dimension contributes to the freshness and dynamics of this wine. Aged 54 months in barrels, it develops a phenomenal density, and on this powerful vintage, an unparalleled concentration. The balance is incredible and you will be seduced by both the strength and the silkiness of its tannins, and the elegance that emerges from it. What a beauty! Rated 98/100 by Parker. |

Hand harvested. Fermentation in concrete tanks by indigenous yeasts, 100% whole bunches crushed according to the tradition. Natural malolactic fermentation and aging of 54 months in mainly French oak barrels in underground cellars. No fining or filtration before manual bottling. Limited production: 2,223 bottles and 41 magnums. As these are very old Tempranillo vines, we also find other local varieties of red or white grapes such as Albillo, Bruñal, Garnacha, Bobal, Cariñera... Certified organic wine. |
