The estate and the wine
The estate and the wine In the heart of La Roche Vineuse—one of the Mâconnais’ finest terroirs—Domaine Merlin is a standout of both skill and conviction. With a modern outlook and a deep connection to southern Burgundy’s Chardonnay, this family-run estate crafts wines of real finesse, using barrel aging with remarkable precision to enhance texture and aromatic depth—never to overpower.

Now led by the next generation, this discreet yet consistently brilliant domaine continues to raise the bar with each vintage. Their latest releases are among their best yet—and we’re completely smitten.
Wine From a later-ripening terroir with limestone soils, and sourced from old vines over 50 years old—including some Premier Cru parcels—the 2023 White Pouilly-Fuissé achieves remarkable ripeness and depth. This is a beautifully expressive wine, with a textured, mineral-driven profile and a refined touch of oak that enhances rather than dominates. Subtle toasty notes, impressive length, and persistence make it a perfect match for poultry, mushrooms, or aged cheeses. With great aging potential ahead, this is a standout vintage. Rated 95/100 by the Selection Committee.
Vinification Hand harvested. Direct pressing of whole grapes, very light settling in stainless steel vats. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in oak barrels and tuns. Aged for 12 months in wood, then 6 months in stainless steel vats. Light filtration before bottling. No fining.
