A coveted label among collectors, Vina Tondonia stands as one of Spain’s and Rioja’s most iconic estates—a benchmark producer that has shaped the global fine wine landscape for over a century.

Driven by an ambitious vision and an uncompromising style, Maria José Lopez de Heredia has elevated the estate to the pinnacle of world-class viticulture. Her relentless pursuit of excellence has not only produced terroir-driven wines that rival the world’s greatest cuvées but also inspired a generation of winemakers across Spain. Her wines are regularly acclaimed by top critics—especially the Parker Guide.

A true master of long aging, the bodega is renowned for its extended barrel maturation—using oak casks crafted on site. These cuvées spend years in large oak vats and American oak barrels (never new), gaining complexity and finesse without losing their identity.

With notes of truffle, dried flowers, aromatic herbs, and forest floor, the 2017 Red Rioja Viña Cubillo is beginning a gentle evolution. The nose remains strikingly pure, with hints of soot and orange peel, while the palate reveals a classic profile—silky at the core, with fine, graceful tannins. Elegant, savoury, and beautifully balanced, it’s a wine that’s both easy to drink and built to age gracefully for another decade or more. Rated 94/100 by our Selection Committee and 93/100 by Parker.

The 2014 Red Rioja Viña Boscania has retained all the finesse and freshness of its vintage, with elegant notes of floral aromatics—rose in particular—alongside a hint of paprika. Refined and easy-drinking, it’s framed by delicate tannins and shows a promising evolution. This is a beautifully balanced wine that will continue to age gracefully for several more years. Rated 93/100 by our Selection Committee.

Born of a particularly hot and dry vintage, the 2012 Red Rioja Reserva is a beautifully balanced cuvée, bursting with juicy, generous fruit. Aged for six years, it shows remarkably little sign of evolution, revealing a finely textured nose with delicate floral and spice notes—layered, nuanced, and full of complexity. This is a graceful, infusion-style Tempranillo, with present yet silky tannins. While it has the structure to age further, it's already showing immense charm today. Rated 95/100 by both our Selection Committee and the Parker Guide.
