Our committee's review
A flagship estate of Provence, Domaine de la Bégude has cultivated a style all its own—unlike anything else in the region. Acquired in 2022 by Christian Roulleau, who also owns Château Dauzac in Margaux, the estate has continually raised its standards in the pursuit of truly great terroir-driven wines.
Set at 410 meters above sea level, with the highest vineyards in the Bandol appellation and farmed organically, the domaine enjoys a much cooler climate than the coastal zones. This unique environment gives the wines a depth and character rarely seen in Bandol—a singular personality that even the region’s most celebrated names struggle to match.
La Bégude remains a true exception in Provence—a chance to experience these wines is not to be missed. Discover this extraordinary 100% Mourvèdre, a spectacular cuvée brimming with deep, generous substance. Rated 94/100 by the Selection Committee.
A tribute to Mourvèdre, the 2024 Thyrsus Red IGP Méditerranée is a concentrated, perfectly ripe wine crafted without added sulfur, capturing the purest expression of the grape. Sourced from a specific plot at 415 meters on marl-limestone soils, it was aged for 8 months in terracotta amphorae. With just 11.5% alcohol, it delivers remarkable freshness for such a southern wine, showing supple, crunchy tannins, delicate smoky nuances, and an abundance of vibrant fruit flavours. The palate is generous, precise, and beautifully defined, finishing with a subtle mineral touch. An exceptional wine to enjoy now or cellar for another 6 to 10 years. Rated 94/100 by the Selection Committee.
